Overall Board Review
In an overall board review, Rosemary uses either quantitative or qualitative methodologies (or sometimes both) to assess the board’s performance. She is measuring against a proven model for board excellence made up of the five areas fundamental to the successful operation of a board:
- The board’s accountabilities
- Structure
- Board processes
- Board culture
- Directors’ capabilities and quality of contribution
Rosemary might gather the data for the review by observing a board meeting, interviewing each director and key executives, administering a survey to directors and executives and interviewing other stakeholders.
This review of the overall board culminates in a comprehensive report documenting the findings and benchmarking the board to those of similar companies, where appropriate. A meeting with the Chair for an in-depth debrief and strategy session follows and then a meeting with the Board as a whole, to present and debate the findings and recommendations.
